What are Glitter Tattoos?
Have you ever wondered “What are Glitter Tattoos”? Well, Glitter Tattoos are a form of long lasting temporary tattoos for kids and adults, created by using a stencil template design, body glue and sparkly coloured glitters, making a sparkly temporary tattoo for anybody who loves tattoos and glitter!

Temporary tattoos are applied to the skin using body safe adhesive, a body art stencil template and cosmetic grade glitter, this creates a beautiful shimmery temporary tattoo which can last up to 7 days on the skin. The tattoo does not, in any way, penetrate the skin, it purely sits on top of the skin.
You may have seen Glitter Tattoos at childrens’ birthday parties, local school fairs, carnivals, theme parks, dance schools, salon pamper parties, weddings and lots of other events held in the UK and abroad. Temporary tattoos can be used all year round for events, Valentines Day, Easter, Christmas and other holidays, there are stencil designs for every occasion.
What type of Body Adhesive do you use for Glitter Tattoos?
Only body safe glue should be used on the skin and can only be safely used on children over 3 years of age, slight reactions may occur in children under 3 years old as their immune system is not fully developed and Public Liability Insurance will be an issue for commercial sellers. How are Glitter Tattoos Applied to the skin?
Glitter Body Art’s temporary tattoo stencils are black in colour and come as triple layer stencil, there is a top clear covering, middle black stencil part and the bottom backing card layer. All tattoo stencils are designed and made in our factory in South Wales.
How do you use a temporary tattoo stencil on the skin?
Make sure the skin area is clean and remove any oily substances, ie sun lotion or creams, with surgical spirit before applying the stencil. Remove the backing card from the black stencil to reveal s a sticky backing, the sticky area is applied to clean, unbroken skin and then the top clear layer is removed, the stencil design is held in place. You will be able to see the skin area through the design. We recommend only using a stencil once to avoid cross contamination from person to person, however, your own child could reuse the stencil several times but they cannot be cleaned.
How do you apply Body Glue?
Apply your Body Glue Plus sparingly over the skin area only, working the glue from the outside edge into the middle. If you work from the middle to the outside edge, glue will get underneath the stencil and you not get that clean crisp edge when you remove the design. The glue is white when it is applied but will be go clear within no time and your design will be ready to apply the glitter.
How do you apply glitter to a stencil?
You can apply your loose cosmetic glitter either using a jar or a puffer bottle for application, this is personal choice. Use a small brush to direct the glitter to the appropriate area of the stencil. The more glitter colours you use, the more vibrant the glitter tattoo looks when complete. Blending the colours is very easy to achieve (watch our video HERE). Make sure all areas of the skin are covered sufficiently and there are no gaps, if there are gaps, simply apply more body glue to the patches and apply more body glitter. Sweep off any excess glitter gently and then remove the stencil from the skin, this should come off quite easily, there will only be issues if you have applied too much body glue and the edges of the design are peeled off with the stencil.
You will now have a beautiful glitter tattoo!!
How long does a Glitter Tattoo last on the skin?
Glitter tattoos, if applied correctly, should remain sparkly and last up to 7 days. If your tattoo becomes wet, then simply dry with a soft cloth, do not rub the temporary tattoo as it may start to break up and come off the skin. Do not apply anything over the glitter tattoo as it will dull the glitter colour.
How do you remove a Glitter Tattoos?
Should you wish to remove a glitter tattoo, we recommend using baby oil or a very good quality makeup remover on a cotton to gently remove the tattoo using circular motions, avoid abrasions to the skin, it simply will not just wash off!
Can you put a Glitter Tattoo on the Face?
Over the past 2 years there has been an increase in glitter products being used on the face such as tattoo designs and body crystals. If you wish to have a tattoo on the face then we recommend using our Make Up Glitter Fix, this is gentler on the skin and easier to remove. Alternatively, we have a Festival Makeup Gel, which can be used to attach glitter to the face, it will last several hours but can simply wash off with warm soap and water or using a facial wet wipe.
Why do you have to use Cosmetic Glitter for a temporary tattoo?
Cosmetic grade glitter should be the only glitter you use for creating glitter tattoos, this is Certified and Cosmetically Approved for use on the skin. It is known for some people to use craft glitter on tattoos but this is very dangerous as some craft glitters contain glass. Please ensure you buy off reputable companies.
